TRAINING OVERVIEW

For adults living with ADHD, overcoming the challenges it presents in daily life—procrastination, perfectionism, task paralysis, and forgetfulness—may feel insurmountable. This hands-on workshop will build on your existing clinical experience and skills to help implement compassionate, affirming interventions that help your ADHD clients effectively identify and change unworkable patterns of behavior. Learn how to implement principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and cognitive behavioral therapy for ADHD (CBT-EF) to support repeated practice and foster long-term impacts for your clients.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand ADHD through a functional lens: Identify what contributes to avoidance and learn how to nonjudgmentally explore and eventually shift unworkable patterns.

  • Turn intentions into actions: Learn evidence-based ways to make interventions “sticky” and support repeated practice– a critical ingredient in effective ADHD treatment.

  • Build a personalized toolkit — for clients and clinicians alike: Build on your existing clinical framework and skills to help clients develop their own go-to repertoire of strategies, self-coaching mantras, and self-regulation techniques.

WHAT IS SMACT?

Southern Maine Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (SMACT) began with ACT workshops in 2008 to a multidisciplinary group of Southern Maine professionals, including physicians, social workers, psychologists and counselors (e.g., LADCs, LCPCs). Since then, SMACT has engaged its community members with regular trainings, book clubs, online educational resources, and retreats. Our goal is for community members to connect and become closer, deepen their practices, and to experiment with facilitating experiential exercises and presentations with one another.
